Old pipe, new streets
Two kinds of house, two kinds of plumbing call
Tontitown has long-established homes and a steady run of new ones, and the two fail differently. In an older house the supply is more likely to be galvanized or early copper that has narrowed inside, which shows up as rusty water, low pressure at the far tap and the same joint leaking twice. Repairs there work best when they are planned around the whole system, not patched one fitting at a time.
In a new subdivision the problems are usually smaller and more fixable: a pressure regulator set high, a toilet that rocks on its flange, a faucet that was the cheapest one in the box. A pressure reading and a careful look at the base of the toilet settle most of it, and the right fixture replaces the wrong one without tearing anything out.
Whichever side of town you are on, the order does not change. The cause gets found first, the options and their trade-offs get explained, and the work happens only after you pick one. Floors and fixtures are protected while it happens, and the area is cleaned up before we leave.
